PERRY RETAINS TITLE. PACIFIC TOURNAMENT. LOS ANGELES, Sept. 23. . Perry (England) retained the PacificSouth West tennis championship on Saturday, defeating Satoli (Japan), 6—4, I—6, 6—3, V— 5. Van ltyn and Stratford (United States) eliminated Turnbull and Quist (Australia), 6—l, 6—4, 13—11, in the semi-final of the doubles match, which was featured by a thrilling third set which went to twenty-four games. The Australians started slowly in the first set, but. wore able to' win only one game. In the second set they solved their opponents’ attack and concentrated on low volleys to Stratford, keeping the hall away from Van ltyn as much as possible. They made a determined stand in the filial set which went to the 23rd game without a break in the service, which Quist lost on his own double fault. The Americans won the deciding game after sixteen hard-fought points. The Australian*' big chance of victory came in the sixteenth game when leading B—7. They gained a 40 —30 lead but were u/lable to hold it. Vines and Miss Ryan (United States) beat Perry and Miss Round (England) in the mixed doubles, 6—l, 6—l. Perry played with an ankle taped, having sprained it near the end of the singles. Miss Round beat Miss Marble (United States) in the singles title 6—2 and 6—2. In the mixed doubles semi-finals, Miss Round and Perry beat Mr and Mrs Van ltyn 6—4 and B—6. Miss Ryan and Vines beat Miss Babcock and Stoeffen 4—6, 6—4 and 6 4. MRS MOODY’S BEST TEN PLAYERS. THREE ENGLISH GIRLS CHOSEN.
