BRITISH TREASURY.
ALLOTMENT OF BILLS. (British Official Wireless.) Received September 25, 11.5 a.m. RUGBY, Sept. 23. The British Treasury yesterday carried out its weekly borrowing at the lowest rate ever recorded. £45,000,000 of three months Treasury bills were placed at an average discount of 4 9.15 per cent., less than 4 per cent. As these bills fall due towards the end of December, when money is usually in abnormally keen demand in Lombard Street, they constitute exceptionally popular maturity, and it is understood the banks secured most of the bills. The total amount applied for was £58,000,000. The lowest rate hitherto was on August 4, when tho average rate of 5s 4.95 d per cent, was paid.
