A feat unique in championship golf was performed by’ Eric Fiddian when playing Jack McLean in the final of the Irish open championship at Newcastle (County Down). He twice holed out in one in the first round. He holed his tee shot at the seventh (128 yards) and again holed his tee shot at the 14tli (208 yards). Nevertheless, McLean retained the title, 3 and 2. NEWSPAPER’S CONTEST. LONDON, Sept. 24. In the News of the World golf competition, Alliss beat Seymour, 5 and 4, and thus becomes the unofficial match play champion. Alliss, thanks to winning three holes of the first nine in a row, was one up at the 18th, taking 71 against 74. Seymour went into the lead at the 22nd, but lost the next three as a result of weakness with his woods, with which Alliss is generally superior.
