AWAHURI AVOAIEN’S INSTITUTE.
Airs Rowlands presided at the monthly meeting of the Awaliuri Women’s Institute on AVcdnesday afternoon. A motion of sympathy was passed to the relatives of the lute Air Alatthews. New members proposed were Airs F. Brock and Alisses E. and D. Salt. Alembers decided to enter into the potato growing competition, and the seed was distributed by Alesdames Bond and 11. Bennett, who were appointed to take charge of the competition. Delegates elected to attend the half-yearly council meeting at Pahiatua were Airs Bond and Aliss Mikklesen, and to the group meeting at Rongotea, Airs Litchfield and Aliss Henson. It was arranged to hold an evening on October 27. Airs Conwell has kindly donated a cake and Miss Bennett a cushion for competition. Alention was made of the recent drama festival at which Awaliuri produced “A Knight of the Trojan War,” and those members who took part were congratulated on their performance. The producer. Airs Bristow, of Palmerston North, was presented with a bouquet and gift in appreciation of her services. Aliss Salt, who has recently returned from Rarotonga, gave an interesting talk on her impressions of the island and displayed some nativo curious. A vote of thanks was accorded her. Airs Bristow kindly judged the competition for the best bowl or vase of spring flowers. The results were: Seniors, bowl, Aliss Pearce 1. Mrs Nicholson 2, Airs Litchfield 3; vase, Airs Giles 1, Airs Harriman 2, Airs Port 3. Juniors, bowl, Aliss Rowlands 1, Airs Terry 2, Aliss Litchfield 3; vase, Aliss Aloore 1, Aliss Henderson 2. The hostesses were Alesdames T. and W. Alanson, Nicholson, Terry and Miss Alinogue. Alesdames Alair and Simpson were in charge of the market table.
