POPULATION OF INDIA. CALCUTTA, Sept. 21. The Indian census returns, published to-day, give tjie population at 352,837,778, nearly one-fifth of the inhabitants of the entire world. The literate portion of the population is only 8 per cent. The blind exceed 600,000.
