QUEEN CARNIVAL.
APPOINTMENT OF ORGANISER. The appointment of Mr Donald D. McDonald, of Wellington, as organiser for the Queen Carnival campaign which commences on Monday week was confirmed at a special meeting, last evening, of the. executive controlling the arrangements. Chosen from 40 applicants, Mr McDonald began his duties to-day. Recently he conducted the Prosperity Week in Auckland and during the last twelve months has supervised four very successful queen carnivals which have produced a net total of £13,500 for various purposes. Delegates from all the Queen Carnival committees will meet him on Monday to discuss plans for the campaign. FRIENDLY SOCIETIES’ DECISION. At a meeting of the Friendly Societies’ Council, last evening, it was decided that rather than nominate a Friendly Societies’ Queen for the coming queen carnival the societies should offer their support to the Plunket and Nursing Sex-vices’ Queen committee. It was thought that by taking such action the societies would be able to work better for the furtherance of the drive for funds for the Central Relief Committee. The chair was taken by Mr A. H. Lowndes, and there was an even representation of the various societies of the city at the meeting.
