SLANDER ACTION.
SYDNEY, Sept. 20. Albert Charles Willis, former Agent-General in London for New South Wales, lias begun an action for slander, claiming £20,000 damages from John Thomas Lang, Leader of the State Opposition. The suit arises from the Bulli byelection campaign. Plaintiff alleges that Mr Lang addressed public meetings at which he inferred that Mr Willis was under the domination and influence of political opponents of the Labour movement, which seriously prejudiced his candidature as a Labourite; also, that an attempt was made to hound him out of public life. Plaintiff’s counsel made frequent reference to Mr Lang’s debenture for £13,000 over the Labour Daily newspaper, and said he would prove by cheques that £SOOO which Mr Lang said he had advanced to that newspaper had been drawn from party funds. The hearing was adjourned.
