NOW £0 13s 9cl PER FINE OUNCE. EFFECT ON EXCHANGES. Received September 21, 9.35 a.m. LONDON,'Sept. 20. A new high level was touched by gold to-day, the quotation being £0 13s 9d per fine ounce. The dollar exchange rate, London mi New York, has fallen to 4.852. The rate on Paris is 78 15-10. The parity level of the New York dollar exchange is 4.806. The par value of the French franc is 124.21. DOLLAR’S LOW LEVEL. AMERICAN REPORT. WASHINGTON, Sept. 20. The dollar fell to a new low level in comparison with gold currencies, and is quoted at 64.65 in relation to the franc. Sterling closed at 4 dollars 80f cents, an advance of 3J for the third consecutive day. The Stock Exchange failed to rally strongly on the falling dollar. A few industrials were up slightly, otherwise closing prices were erratic. REACTION IN THE EAST. SOVEREIGNS AT £1 11s sd. Received September 21, 9.50 a.m. SHANGHAI, Sept. 20. In consequence of the jump in the price of gold on the fall of sterling and the franc rates, dealers are offering the record price of £1 11s 5d for sovereigns.
