RIOTOUS SCENES.
AT CATTLE AUCTION. Received September 21, 10.5 a.m. LONDON, Sept. 20. Riotous scenes were witnessed when the Government tried to auction six cows which ha.d been seized for nonpayment of a Tipperary farmer’s rates. Hundreds of farmers thronged the ring and were amazed when a man calling himself John Brown bid £l4. He proved to be a policeman and was the only bidder. He secured the cattle, whereupon he was attacked by irate anti-De Valera farmers. His coat was torn and his trousers were removed and tlie crowd attempted to belabour him with sticks. Civil Guards rushed to the spot and escorted the policeman, while the farmers chaired the cattle owner and sang “Tipperary.” Somebody called “Put up ‘Dev’ for sale.” Many farmers are supporters of Mr McDermott.
