HOROWHENUA.
(From Our Own Correspondent.) OTAKI, Sept. 20. Mr E. Lyne yesterday underwent a successful operation at the Palmerston North Hospital. The death occurred at Birmingham (England) on August 8 of Mr Alfred John Kerkhoff, father of Mrs Betton Deakin, of Waikanae. The social at the Parish Hall on Monday night attracted a larger crowd than usual, and dancing and card-playing were indulged in. Euchre prizes were won by Miss E. Batten and Sir F. Winterburn and by Mrs Heperi and Mr E. Egdell; and dance prizes by Mr and Mrs Egdell, Miss Tui Bevan and Miss Meta. The dance at To Horo was well attended, there being quite a number present from adjacent towns. Old and modern dances were indulged in. The annual meeting of the Paraparaumu Lawn Tennis Club elected tho following officers: Patron, Rev. H. Wilson; president, Mr T. Thompson; secretary and treasurer, Mr L. Shepherd; club captain, Mr A. Brandt; committee, Misses I. Udy, B. Johnston and E. Donovan, Messrs E. Weggerv, I. Howell, Dr D. Paterson and Mr S. Tyver.
