MASONIC FUNCTION.

Lodge Feilding No. 41 held a ladies’ evening last night ill the Parish Hall, over 200 members and guests being present, including visitors from Falmerston North, Marton, Ivimbolton, ltongotea and Ashhurst. Tasteful decorations had been carried out j in the hall with flags, greenery and ! coloured lights. • The first part of the evening was devoted to a stage programme, items being given by the lodge orchestra and solos by Mrs E. A. Golding, Miss E. M. Taylor, Miss M. Armour, Messrs F. Billman, H. Dewe, A. Kingston and G. J. Fitzpatrick. A violin sojo was rendered by Miss B. Eliott and a flute solo by Mr M. Hausmann. A dance programme followed, those present greatly enjoying the music which was supplied by a local orchestra. Mr W. W. Andrews acted as M.C., and also had charge of the stage programme. During the evening a dainty slipper was served by a ladies’ committee comprising Mesdames W. W. Andrews, F. H. Billing, E. A. Golding, E. H. McGruer, G. Fitzpatrick, A. J. Ivellow, L. D. Miller and D. Fairweatlier. The officers of the lodge were complimented by many of the guests on a very successful and enjoyable ladies’ evening. ST. PAUL’S TENNIS CLUB. The annual report of St. Paul’s Presbyterian Tennis Club states that the club enjoys a membership of 70. The committee considers that the season has been a particularly successful one for. notwithstanding the difficult times, tho club emerged

with a credit balance of £6 5s sd. In accordance with a motion on tho minute book, tho sum of £3O was again repaid to various debenture holders, and the liability in respect to the courts has now been reduced to £4O. During the earlier part of tho season, an entertainment committee was sot up to raise funds and at the ond of September staged a musical and dramatic entertainment. This proved a great success, and thus encouraged tho Pierrot Troupe staged the entertainment at Bunnythorpo, Apiti, Rangiwahia and Marton, and in each case they were met with an appreciative audience. Total receipts wore £24 5s 3d and expenses £lO 9s 9d, leaving a net profit of £l3 15s 6d. The committee thanks sincerely those friends and members who gave of their talent and tirno in tile interests of the club. The ladder continues to stimulate much friendly interest among players, as also does tho. “buttons” scheme inaugurated towards the close of the season. Various championships and handicaps wore held and resulted as follow: Ladies’ championship singles and handicap: Miss Vera Whisker; men’s championship, Mr I. C. Robinson; men’s handicap, Mr Duncan Smith; ladies’ doubles, Misses Elsio and Vera Whisker; men’s doubles, not completed; mixed doubles, Miss J. Watts and Mr I. C. Robinson. Eleven matches with local and neighbouring town clubs were playod, St. Paul’s being successful in six. It is proposed to, topdress the courts this year and they should be in good playing condition by opening day. The Ping Pong Club formod last winter to keep tennis members interested in tho club has again proved popular. In addition a tenikoit set has been purchased. The club has a membership of 20. The committee has achieved its object of keeping players interested in tho Tennis Club. It is with sincere regret that wo record the departure from Feilding of Mr I. C. Robinson. Since tho club’s inception ho has given it his wholehearted support and was an efficient club captain. Thangs are again due to Mr O. Aldis for his work as auditor; the Church management committee for their encouragement; the debonture holders, and to tho Press for publicity given. The continued co-operation and support of members will ensure success in the future.
