QUEEN CARNIVAL.

NOMINATIONS OE CANDIDATES. Several nominations of queens have been made for the Queen Carnival to be held in Palmerston North from October 2 to November 11 to raise funds for the Central Relief Committee. Those nominated to date are: Sports Queen. —Miss Mollie Nathan. Retailers Queen. —Miss Edna Boon. Plunket and Nursing Services Queen. —Miss Joan Barnett. Public Services Queen. —Miss K. Richards. At a meeting held last evening in the Plunket Society’s rooms it was decided to nominate Miss Joan Barnett, daughter of Dr. E. C. Barnett and Mrs Barnett, Eitzherbert Avenue, as the Plunket and Nursing Services’ Queen. Those organisations represented at the meeting were the Plunket Society, private hospitals of th city, the Trained Nurses’ Association, the District Nursing Committee and tlxe Hospital. SPORTS QUEEN MEETING.

There was a good attendance of the sports organisations of tile city, last evening, when preliminary, arrangements were made for the conducting of the campaign for the Sports Queen. Mr E. It. Wimsett presided and it was announced that Miss M. Nathan, daughter of Mr F. J. Nathan and Mrs Nathan, had consented to be the Sports Queen. The meeting appointed Mr Wimsett as chairman of the committee tor the carnival, Mr F. B. Wright secretary and Mr E. V. Spear treasurer. The executive was elected as follows: Messrs O. C. Yates (Rugby), J. C. Young (Soccer), R. Brace (cricket), E. W. Low (Rugby referees), R. L. C. Aitchison (men’s hockey), W. J. Smith (ladies’ hockey), E. V. Spear (golf), J. T. McDonald (badminton),. G. Pratt (tenikoits), H. 0. Walker (Aero and Model Clubs), J. H. White (tennis) A. D. Campbell (swimming), R. E. Small (life-saving), C. Stagpoole (athletics), F. J. Nathan (racing), A. H. Manson (trotting), L. H. Collinson (Hunt Club), J. P. Evans (boxing), J. Purves (wrestling), A. F. Wimsett (bowling), W. Robertson (croquet), N. D. Stubbs (gun clubs), E. V. West (motor cycling). Other representatives are to be selected at a later date, while Mr B. J. Jacobs was appointed their representative. The representatives on the central executive will be Messrs Nathan and Wimsett. The main executive was appointed as follows: —Messrs Wright. Yates, Nathan, Jacobs, Spear, Aitchison and Wimsett. APPOINTMENT OF SECRETARY. About 40 applications for the position of secretary to the Queen Carnival were considered by the provisional committee for the carnival at a meeting held last night. Full consideration was given to the selection and it is stated that the committee’s choice is of a gentleman who has excellent qualifications, having conducted a number of successful carnivals in various parts of New Zealand. The appointment is to be confirmed at another meeting to-night. The bands of the city are, with the consent of the other queen committees, to be attached to the theatres and amusements section.
