VALEDICTORY

REV. AND MRS L. G. B. WHITE- > HEAD. Signifying the esteem in which tho guests of the evening are held, a large gathering of the congregation of St. David’s Church, Terrace End, assembled last evening to bid farewell to Rev. L. G. B. Whitehead and Mrs Whitehead, who are leaving for Wallacetown, Southland, where the minister has accepted a call. A social evening was held after the close of a Presbyterian visitation, when musical and elocutionary items were rendered by members of tho church. Misses Sorenson and Day and Mr J. S. Murray gave much appreciated solos, Mrs Murray acting as accompaniste, while Mrs J. Davidson gave a recitation. The following members spoke of the work the- minister and his wife had done at Terrace End:- —Mr A. E. Loveday, on behalf of the junior Bible class; Mrs J. Davidson, Ladies’ Guild; Mr F. Foster, management committee ; Mr J. S. Murray, senior Bible class; Mr J. Davidson, congregation; and Mrs S. Sorensen, P.W.M.U. Mr A. C. Allen, the chairman, spoke of the minister’s fine qualities, his uprightness and of the visitation work during his pastorate. Mr and Mrs Whitehead were then presented with a silver tea service and Mrs Whitehead was handed a beautiful bouquet by Mrs Forster.' The recipients acknowledged the gifts and expressed their thanks to the congregation. At the close of the meeting a dainty supper was served by the ladies of the congregation.
