PAHIATUA, Sept. 19. That Mr J. F. Treder, aged 62, farmer, of Mangamaire, had been accidentally killed, death being caused by a fail from a dray winch had broken his neck, no blame being attachable to anyone, was the verdict at the inquest held this morning. The late Mr Treder, of Konini, came to this country from Poland with his parents when a boy of 14 years. He married Miss Mary Elizabeth Rzoska in 1896 and was employed by numerous well-known settlers in the Wairarapa for many years. In 1910, Mr Treder removed with his family to the Forty Mile Bush, and took up a farm on the Ridge Road, Konini, where ho had resided ever since. He was of an exceedingly industrious nature, and his farm was highly improved. Besides his widow he leaves a family of four to mourn their loss. Argument as to the validity of an Eketahuna borough by-law regarding itinerant traders was heard in the Pahiatua Court yesterday in the case Alexander Douglas Johnston (Mr P. Pago) v. Ekotahuna Borough Council (Mr Gooding), the claim being for £5, the amount of an itinerant trader’s fee paid by defendant to the borough. Mr Page claimed that the by-law was ultra vires and void. The fee was paid after objection and plaintiff traded for only one or two days in the town. Mr Gooding’s defence was that payment was voluntary. Both counsel referred the Court to various law reports of cases bearing on this point and the Magistrate reserved his decision. , ~ . The monthly sitting of the local Magistrate’s Court was held yesterday before Mr J. Miller, S.M. \V. G. Milne, traffic inspector for the Akitio County Council, proceeded against Claude Ferrick for being the owner of a private car which, on July 12th, at Pongaroa he used for a passenger service without having paid the tun amount of the insurance premium. Defendant pleaded guilty and was fined £2 and costs 17s. Allan O. Ferrick, in connection with the above offence, was charged that on the Masterton-Weber Highway he did use a passenger car, owned by his brother C Ferrick to which no certificate ot ntness had been issued. The fine imposed was £1 10s and 14s costs There was no appearance of Lars Peter Hansen, of Pongaroa, who was charged with driving a car without having the full amount of insurance premium on it. He submitted a letter pleading ignorance and was convicted and fined £2, and costs 17s Ihe Pahiatua County Council (Mi H.
