(From Our Own Correspondent.) FOXTON, Sept. 20. Mrs H. A. Hannay has left hospital and returned to her home in Foxton. Mr G. Barber, of Marotiri, is visiting Auckland. The Foxton Silver Band has been resuscitated and made its first public appearance last evening. The band is catering largely for boys. Tho football season in the Horowhenua district terminates on Saturday with a match between Foxton Fire Brigade juniors and Paraparaumu, northern and southern division winners, for the “knockout” cup. Foxton is experiencing a shortage of houses. _ Under the No. 10 scheme four new residences are to be erected. Tho present season has been the poorest on record for whitebait in the Manawatu River. Scarcely any lias been caught so far and fishermen now consider tho season over." Flounders have also been very scarce, scarcely any being caught in the river now. , Welcome rain fell in Foxton and district yesterday, after a dry spoil in which gardens suffered and house,holders dependent on tanks for water have been inconvenienced. The Foxton bowling green is looking very well and is undergoing a final topdressing prior to tho official opening.
