After an illness, with much suffering, of 15 months, the death occurred at his late residence, Tararua Street, yesterday afternoon of an old and respected identity of the district, Mr Matthew Qnillinnn, who was at one time engaged in farming. The late Mr Quillinan, who was aged 78 years, was a native of Tipperary (Ireland), and came to Now Zealand when 18 years of age. He had lived in or near Pahiatua for many years. He was for some time employed in the construction of the Manawatu Gorge line, and also on railway works at Taihape. In his prime ho was a strong, muscular man, which stood him in good stead in arduous undertakings in the early days. For several years ho was employed by the Pahiatua Council as a roadman at Ballance. He leaves a wife and family, the surviving members of which comprise Mrs B. J. Golder (Woodville) and Airs T. Hickey (Hastings). '
