That is tiie story of Blixtcn’s Ro.-chill Guinea.feat. lie completely rehabilitated himself in the eyes of racegoers. Limarch ran a great race considering ho has been sire with two injured legs. . INFLATION’S SUCCESS. PREPARING FOR THE EPSOM. (By “Binocular.”) Inflation signalled liis first appearance under silk in Australia on the present trip by scoring a success in the Camellia Stakes, a weight-for-age event, on Saturday. By so doing the Paper Money colt rather repeated history, for on the occasion of an earlier trip to Sydney in search of honours Inflation made a successful debut on Australian racecourses. At his next essay he was considered lo have been somewhat unfortunate in being beaten into third place, but worse fortune then befell him, for a split heel was the forerunner of blood poisoning which resulted in the colt being in a very bad way for a time. The malady prevented him from again racing in Australia and he was finally brought back to Awapuni far from his old self. While he made a good recovery, the effect of the trouble made itself evident by a loss of form and his three-year-old career fell far short of what had been hoped for him. However, his recent form had promised that better things were in store, and his success at the Wanganui Hunt meeting encouraged liis owner, Mr 11. E. Edmunds, of Palmerston North, to undertake yet another trip. Inflation was to have had his first start last Wednesday, but A. W. McDonald, who went across in charge of him, considered that he was hardly far enough forward to merit his being started, and the entry upon his campaign was delayed till Saturday with pleasing results. T. Green, who rode Inflation on the earlier trip, was in the saddle on Saturday, so the association has again proved to be a successful one. The colt’s big mission is the Epsom Handicap in which a great array

of brilliant milers figure, and it is Air Edmunds’s ‘ intention to cross to Sydney to witness the contest. Inflation’s quotation in the betting market for the Epsom will now shorten considerably as a result of Saturday’s success and, all going well with him, the aristocratic colt should make a great bid for the honours.

Thore was quite a New Zealand flavour about the results from Rosebery for Blixten, the winner of the Rosehill Guineas and Limarch, who ran third in the saute event, are both Dominion-bred performers, while Hunt the Slipper, who ran second in the Brush Hurdles, is a member of the team under A. D. Webster’s charge. The horseman who rode him is identical with the Awapuiii hurdle rider, A. W. McDonald, who went across with Inflation. TWO BIG EVENTS. BRONZE HAWK SUPPORTED. Although Chatham has displaced Bronze Hawk as the pre-post favourite for the A.J.G. Epsom Handicap, the latter still lias admirers rallying to him, and on Sep-' teinber 8 came in for additional support ■for the mile race (says a Sydney report). The present order of favouritism is:— EPSOAI HANDICAP. Chatham. Bronze Hawk. Jaeko. Bold Boy, Dermic], Top Hole. Care Free, Inflation. Autopay, Cottesmore, Turbins, Wolluu. TH E At ETROPOLITA N.

Topical. Balgay. Nord, Rogilla. Magnitas, Oro. Lough Neagh. Aialtdalo. Master Bricrly,- Mince Pic, Pretzel Milautlicon, Peter Jackson.

I Turning into the* homo stretch Winooka was first by three lengths, winning eas.ly • Onrush is not a mud horse, and was unab.o j to keep up. Winooka was warmly acclaimed | alter the finish. Eight thousand were pie- i sent, the adverse weather reducing the at-I tendance.

The New York Times’s racing editor says: “The victory of Winooka is pleasing to Eastern racing observers. His performance demonstrated that Winooka can negotiate bad trucks as well as fast ones. It is to bo hoped that he will bo given the opportunity of racing in the fields of quality which made him the Australian champion. As yet the horse has had no opportunity to prove his championship calibre.”

The Seattle Post says Winooka could have won by 10 lengths if Britt had so desired.

Reports that Winooka lias been placed under an armed guard due to the hostility of local owners and rumors are emphatically denied by Al. Poison, who stated that no special precautions have been taken to guard Winooka who is universally popular.
