(From Our Own Correspondent.) OTAKI, Sept. 15. A heavy fall of snow occurred on the Tararuas yesterday. There will he a large gathering of clergy in Otaki in February next to take part in the celebrations of Archbishop Redwood’s diamond jubilee. It is expected that the number will bo no less. than 250, including Bishops from Australia and the Islands.

The Hautcro Miniature Rifle Club hold a social on Wednesday night at the Ilautcrc Hall. The music was. provided by Mrs Rcpata and Mr D. Nicolls. A fivc-asido hockey tournament, under tho auspices of the Horowhcnua Hockey Association, was held at Otaki on Wednesday. Rovers won in the .men’s division, and Oliau played splendidly to win the ladies’ trophies. . At about 5.15 last evening Mr Byron Brown’s beach residence was found to be on fire. Tho Fire Brigade was quickly in attendance and extinguished tho flames. The damago done was not heavy. Fortunately tho fire broke out in tho back of tho house, but had it occurred in tho front Mr Brown would probably have suffered severe loss by water. Mr Taylor, a visitor to Otaki,' occupied the house but was in the township at tho time of the outbreak.
