RAFFLE OFFENCE.

CHRISTCHURCH, Sept. 12. How a man called on city firms collecting for bogus raffles organised for his own benefit w r as related this morning wdien Henry Lorraine Scott, aged 44, a labourer, pleaded guilty to the charge that on September 11 he was deemed a rogue and vagabond in that he collected contributions by means of false pretences. Accused v r as sentenced by the Magistrate, Mr E. D. Mosley, to a year’s gaol. The police said tlie man Avas an imposter. He had represented that the raffle was for a woman’s handbag, and had originated in hospital and that it Avould be drawn in ward seven. He pretended to be recently out of the hospital. Accused lrad a formidable list.
