Mr J. L. Stout, S.M., is indisposed, and was unable to take the Bench at the Magistrate’s Court to-day. Hon. J. A. Young, Minister of Health, left Wellington for the south oil Saturday evening to take part in the Lyttelton by-election campaign.

Mr T. C. List, District Governor for the Rotary movement in New Zealand, will visit Palmerston North on Monday next to meet the local Rotary Club.

Dr. W. H. Scotter, Ph.D., son of Rev. and Mrs A. N. Scotter, of Palmerston North, was in Palmerston North for the week-end and lias returned to Martinborough. Rev. J. C. Davies, vicar of Levin, conducted the services at St. Peter’s Church, Terrace E.ud, yesterday, having exchanged pulpits for the occasion with Itev. 'D. J. Davies, the Terrace End vicar.

To mark his fifty-sixth anniversury of continuous association wren sne Hawke’s Bay Herald, Mr Charles Price was entertained by the Mayor, Mr C. O. Morse, and a representative gathering of citizens at Napier on Friday. On behalf of the people of Napier, the Mayor presented Mr Price with a gold-mounted fountain pen.

Sir John and Lady Sandeman Allen left London in July for Mombasa. Sir John Sandeman Allen is visiting the East African Colonies to study the position there, and, as chairman of the Joint East African Advisory Board, to settle various questions which have arisen in the East African territory in recent times. He will then proceed to South Africa, Australia and New Zealand on general Empire work.
