FOXTON RACING CLUB.

LIFE MEMBER’S RECORD.

(From Our Own Correspondent.) FOXTON, Sept. ' 9,

At the annual meeting of the Foxton Racing Club, this week, Mr Cco. Edwards, of Lady’s Mile, Foxton, was elected a life member of the club. Mr Edwards holds a record for attendance at race meetings in Foxton and one which possibly cannot be touched by any member of another club. Mr Edwards, when interviewed today, stated that for 62 years he had not missed a meeting held by the club and during that long period he had occupied practically every position that the club could offer its officials. He had also entered into the competitive side of racing by entering a horse in the early days. Mr Edwards stated that he was first associated with racing in Foxton when the original club was formed, those prominently associated with this body being the late Messrs Whyte, Liddell, Osborne and others, all long since dead. The club went out of existence, however, and was later revived by the late Mr Ruftsell who for many years was secretary. Messrs J. and G. Russell both took a keen interest in the club and from then on it had carried on without interruption. In addition to the Himatangi “scurries,” Mr Edwards recalled other “outings” of a similar nature held around Foxton, but they had nothing to do with the history of the Foxton Racing Club. Mr Edwards is 81 years of ago and the only living original member of the club.
