PLAY AT HOKOWHITU. TIE IN MEDAL HANDICAP. Playing under somewhat difficult conditions as a result of the high wind, there was, nevertheless, a good field of competitors in both the A and B grade stroke handicaps. The honours were shared in the former division by. A. E. R. Joblin and E. W. H. Drew, but G. P. Maule enjoyed a comfortable win in tlie lower grade. The leading cards were : A grade.—A. E. R. FOUR-BALL BOGEY. SEIFERT’S GOOD CARD. A four-ball bogey competition engaged the attention of club members at the week-end, when. L. Seifert and H. Swindell proved to be the winners with the splendid card of 7 up. Seifert, who was round in 71, won the single with a card of 4 up. He averaged 4’s on the outward half despite a 6 against the wind at Strang’s and s’s at Sliotovev and Riverside. Threes at the first, second, fourth and ninth compensated for these. He played great golf coming in. He recorded no less than seven 4’s, and a 2 at Lagoon Hill was followed b" a 5 at Ti Tis. His card read:—Out: 335364543 —36. In: 44254444 4—35. Total: 71. SCHOOLBOYS’ CUP. The competition for a cup presented by Mr J. R. Gallowav. which is open to schoolboys, the sons of members, found a good field for candidates and the honours went to J. HAWKE’S BAY TITLE. S. POWDRELL 1933 WINNER. In the semi-finals of tlie Hawke’s Bay amateur golf championship at Waioliiki, Kapi Tarelia eliminated F. C. Fryer 2 and I. while S. Powdrell defeated A. A. Sinclair 4 and 2. In the final the evergreen Powdrell, who has participated in the Napier Club’s tour, ney for the past 20 years, beat Tareha, who won the New Zealand Maori tournament last month, 2 and 1. A. J. SHAW’S PERFORMANCE. Per Press Association. AUCKLAND, Sept. 11. Despite the gale yesterday, A. J. Shaw, the champion golfer, completed a round in 74—one under scratch—at Titirangi, where he will defend his Dominion open and professional titles next month.
