MILSON.
(From Our Own Correspondent.) MILSON, Sept. 10,
The annual general meeting of the Milson Tennis Club was held in the pavilion tli is afternoon. In the absence of the president (Mr D. Emms) the meeting was presided over by the vice-chairman, Mr J. Gilbert. In presenting his report, Mr Gilbert said that the club had experienced a mest successful year. “The activities of the club wore not so pronounced as in previous years, mainly owing to the heavy expenses involved in travelling. Friendly matches had been played with Hokowhitu, Takaro and St. Patrick’s clubs. In all theso games, members performed creditably against more experienced players. It is with regret that I have to record the loss of our president, Mr D. Emins, who has transferred from the district. The loss sustained is a severe one, for apart from his capabilities as a player he was a very keen worker in the interests of the club. Although the balance k not what other years have revealed, considering the times, it is satisfactory to _ record a balance of 14s 9d on the right side. In conclusion, I hope the club will have a very successful season.” The secretary produced the balance-sheet, which was adopted. A motion to admit members _ other than railway residents by nomination and ballot was defeated. Officers for the ensuing year wore elected as follow: President. Mr G. Fairey; vice-president, Mr H. W. Bovis; captain, Mr F. Gngg; vicecaptain, Mr A. H. M. Rankin; secretary, Mr R Dunn; auditor, Mr Rasmussen. These ’ officers, with the addition of Mr C. Fairburn, constitute the committee. The offices of president, vice-president and auditor are subject to consent. The membership fees remain unaltered. The monthly meeting of the executive of the Milson Progressive Association was held in the hall to-day, Mr J. C. A. Donaldson presiding. Business was of a very light nature. The Milson Sports Club wrote asking for a donation of boxing gloves and the free use of the hall on one night a week for training children. It was pointed out that, far from being in a position to make donations, the association is itself struggling to liquidate existing liabilities, and the request was not granted. Arrangements are being made by the association to conduct fortnightly dances to provide entertainment for the residents of the district. Tho competition conducted bv the association during the past month was concluded to-day, the winner being Mr F. Holder. Mr W. Pritchard annexed the second prize. Accounts amounting to £2 6s 6d were passed for payment.
