TE ARAKURA.

(From Our Own Correspondent.) TE ARAKURA, Sept. 9.

The September meeting of the To Arakura Women's Institute committee was held at Mrs Russell’s residence, Robert’s Lino. The afternoon being gloriously fine, tho members greatly enjoyed looking round their hostess's garden. Mrs Griffith presided and Mesdamos Thomas, Bradley, J. Hume, Whisker and Baxter, also Misses Bailey, Bennett, and Hansen were present. It was stated that the total sum of £ll 12s 4d had been raised at tho social and dance held last month under the auspices of tho institute in aid of the hall fund. Competitions for the two following months were suggested: October, best plain sponge (jam filling) for the seniors, and the best plate of plain toffee for tho juniors; November, best Christmas presont from half yard of organdie, 6d being allowed for trimmings. Lectures are to be given by Mi's Dawick and Mr Hume. A trading stall will be held at the monthly meeting next Wednesday at Mrs Death’s residence. At the conclusion of the business a dainty afternoon tea was served by the hostess. Mrs Griffith proposed a very hearty vote of thanks to Mrs Russell for her kindness in entertaining the committee at her homo.

The local Ping Pong Club were defeated in their last competition match against Takaro by 25 gamos to 11. Miss E. Whisker has been transferred to Taihapo, where she will bo teaching at the District High School for tho current term.
