. MEETING OF COMMITTEE. POSTMEN’S DRIVE, The monthly meeting of the Palmerston North Central Relief Committee was held yesterday afternoon, when the Mayor (Mr A. E. Mansford) presided. Others present were: Messrs F. J. Nathan, R. S. Abraham, W. R. Kells, J. A. Nash, M.P., B. J. Jacobs, J. C. Young, A. J. Phillipps, K. G. Chamberlain (lion, secretary), P. S. Larcomb (bon treasurer), Rev. Father Herlihy, Ensign Thorne, MesdamesMansford, Palmer, Trask, Aitcliison and Hayward. Apologies for absence were received from Mr A. A. Langley, Mesdames L. A. Abraham and J. Shaw. A welcome was extended to Mr R. S. Abraham who took his seat on the committee for the first occasion.

Two representatives from the postmen waited on the meeting with reference to the proposed effort of the postmen to collect parcels of clothes and any other gifts the citizens "cared to give them. The date suggested was Saturday, September 16, at 1 p.m., and the postmen would he assisted by Boy Scouts and car owners. Full publicity through the Press would be undertaken as well as the delivery to every householder of a circular appealing for donations. Food depot.—A comprehensive report was read from the officer in charge. Over the four-week period an average of 475 families were being assisted weekly. Meat: One hundred and fourteen sheep weighing S39slbs were purchased and the Kairanga Meat Co. had supplemented this witli a donation of 800 lbs of beef and sausages. Vegetables and fruit: Thirtynine sacks of potatoes, two sacks of silver beet and seven sacks of spinach were received from the community gardens; 40321bs of swedes were donated by Mr Holdaway, Mr Saunders and city markets. Eleven sacks of cabbages were received from the Dominion Auctioneering Co. Mr Owtram, a most consistent donor, had sent in 300 lbs of apples. As there were now no more potatoes available from the community garden, it had been necessary to purchase. 2$ tons. Groceries and bread: 60381bs bread, 850 lbs butter, lOOOlbs flour, 2101 bs sugar, and IOOIbs oatmeal were purchased. An anonymous donation per Messrs Watson Bros., Ltd., consisting of 2001bs flour, 7()lbs sugar, 501bs oatmeal, 141bs rolled oats, 241bs jams, 40 packets soups and 22 pudding powders was gratefully received. Milk: Sixty-five families were supplied with milk daily and judging by acknowledgments tins free issue to families of small children was very much appreciated. Boots: Fortyeight pairs of boots had been repaired and further supplies of leather ordered. Firewood: One hundred and fifty-five bags of wood were issued during the period. Work: Work for rations was well up to date and the majority of the men coining forward to the depot seemed pleased to get the rations by working for them. Accounts totalling £341 8s Id were passed lor payment.
