WHAKARONGO.

(From Our Own Correspondent.) WHAKARONGO, June 14. The Whakarongo School Committee held their monthly meeting Inst week. Those present were Messrs Stuart (chairman), Woodd (secretary), Johansen, Creswell, Ilarrowfield and Mrs Eggers (head teacher). A vote of thanks was atcorded Mr Yautier for donating a cup and also Mr Knudsen lor the amount of ten shillings for the mangold growing competition. The secretary was instructed to write and thank both donors on behalf of the school. It was decided to close the school all day Friday to enable the children' to attend the Winter Show. The monthly meeting of the Farmers’ and Dairy Farmers’ Unions was held on Monday. Correspondence was received from the Dairy Farmers’ Union executive and from the president of the Ashhurst branch. Shipping matters were contained in two circulars received. The two communications, taken together, made quite interesting reading, but although they were accepted as evidence of a certain healthy competition (from the farmers’point of view) no action was taken. It was decided to reply to the Ashhurst branch that arrangements for a combined meeting at Ashhurst were under way, and to endeavour to arrange for several other meetings in the Manawatu duing July, to meet the Dominion organiser ot the New Zealand Pig Marketing Association; which will then have completed a year's work in the Manawatu. • Local residents will he pleased to learn that Mrs Spoedy, who has been an inmate of a private hospital, has now returned to her home.
