The rainfall at Otaki golf links for April totalled- nearly throe inches. Tho heaviest fall was .88in on the 3rd. Rev. Temuera Tokoaitua, minister for tho Maoris here, has been retired, and his son, Paul, appointed to the vacancy. The former has been minister here lor a number of years. Prize-tvinners at, the fire brigade euchre tournament last night were Mrs Denton and Mr W. Bills (firsts) and Mrs Bills and Mr C. Cookeley (seconds). . . Of the 1125 names on the Otaki municipal roll 810 votes were recorded, a record. Heavy rain fell throughout the day. As a result -of a recount for the Mayoral eleotion, which took place this afternoon, Mr Atmore’e majority was increased to two. A Magisterial recount may bo the next move as there are a number of declaration papers to be dealt with. A search party for the trampors are still on the Tararuas, namely. Messrs Chaney, McDonald, Gurney and Fiutey. Mr W. Ogier, who leaves for the south next week, was entertained by members of the Post Office staff and presented with a travelling bag. , . , After the speeches on Wednesday night the Mayor (Mr Atmore) stated that he had a presentation to make on behalf of the residents of the town to Mr J. S. Pole, who had decided to take up residence in Wanganui. Mr Pole, he stated, had been associated with the district for the past 26 years. During that time he had interested himself in the welfare of the town and district, always taking a prominent part in affairs. On _ behalf of the people of' Otaki he asked Mr Pole to accept a rug as a token of esteem. Mr Atmore trusted that Mr Pole would enjoy good health and happiness for years to come. Mr Polo, who was very warmly received, feelingly replied.
