CITY FIRE BRIGADE.

CHIEF INSPECTOR’S VISIT. Last evening, Mr C. Girling-Butcher, Chief Inspector of Fire Brigades, undertook an inspection of the Palmerston North Brigade, when a full muster was obtained for the occasion. Under the direction of Superintendent W. H. Barnard, routine work was executed. A number of hoses were brought into action, feeding both from the watermains and the duck-pond in tho Square, and excellent pressures were obtained from both sources. The manoeuvres of connecting leads, mounting the extension ladder with the hose, and playing a stream of water from the top of an hotel building, were carried out in a manner that reflected much credit on the brigrade. . After the demonstration, Inspector Butcher said that it had been conducted very efficiently throughout and that the general organisation at the station was nighly satisfactory.
