MR HINKLER.

MONEY SPENT TO FURTHER AVIATION.

Relatives of Mr Bert Hinkler, who disappeared while flying from England to Australia recently, said that the general opinion was that Mr Hinkler had received large grants of money, which he had spent for his own personal use, and that he was an extremely wealthy man. The position was just the opposite, they declared. All the money he had received had been used to further the cause of aviation. Money was spent in taking out world rights for his patents, and all that was allocated to him in Australia barely covered the protecting of bis experiments. His life ambition, they added, was to provide a light ’plane as useful to mankind as the motor car, and as accessible in price. Another idea of Mr Hinkler’s was to make a machine for the people of the central districts of Australia, which would enable them to communicate with the more closely populated districts at' reasonable cost.
