PUBLIC SERVICE WAGES.

RUMOUR OF CUT DENIED. (Bv Telegraph.—Special to Standard.) WELLINGTON, Feb. 8. A complete denial was given by Rt. Hon. G. W. Forbes to-night when his attention was drawn to the revival of a rumour that a further wage cut was to be made in the Civil Service. On this occasion the rumour had it that a further 5 per cent, was to be deducted from the salaries of those in the pay of the State. “No Bill will be brought forward this session providing for a further salary cut for civil servants,” said Mr Forbes, when discussing the matter. He added that the proposal did not find a place on the Government’s legislative programme.
