PROPOSED NEW PARTY.
THE MEETING IN WELLINGTON. FORMER MEMBERS PRESENT. WELLINGTON, Feb. 9. Proposals for the formation of a new political party were discussed at a meeting which opened in Wellington yesterdav, and will be continued to-day. Virtually all of those present, numbering about 30, have been associated with the United Party. Among xbose who attended were Mr A. J. Stallworthy. M.P. for Eden, who recently announced his intention not to attend further caucuses of the Coalition Party, Mr W. A. Bodkin, M P for Otago Central, and Mr D. McDougall. M.P. for Mataura. Messrs Bodkin and McDougall were accordingly not' present at yesterday’s caucus of the Coalition Party, although invitations had been issued to them. Others present included Mr W. B. Taverner, of Dunedin, who was Minister of Public Works in the United Cabinet; Mr J. B. Donald, of Auckland, who was Postmaster-General in the same Ministry: Mr T. W. McDonald, former United member for \V airarapa ; Mr J. Kerr, who has twice contested the Hutt seat in the United Party interests; Mr A. B. Sievwrigfet. who has contested Otaki under the United banner; and Ur Abbey Jones, of Invercargill. It was expected that M-r G. C. Munns. former United member for Roskill,"would have been present, but he did not attend. It is understood the movement had its origin in Dunedin. Those associated with it say it is incorrect to assume that the movement is essentially of a city character.
