AIARTON, Feb. 8. A fully representative meeting of AJarton retailers, 35 in number, met on Alonday evoning in committee to represent their views to Air A. Stuart, ALP., on the proposed sales tax, for which a Bill is expected to be brought before the House this session. A most emphatic protest was entered in the form of a resolution to the Prime Alinistcr. Air Stuart assured the meeting that he sympathised with the difficulties of the townspeople and would vote against any clauses he disapproved of in the Committee stages of the Bill. There were so many difficulties apparent that he suggested the Bill should go before a Select Committee before its presentation.

The Rangitikei County Council has received six tenders for the sealing work on the Wangaehu-Bulls section of the Alain Highway. The tenders aro being _ referred by the County Council to the Alain Highways. Board.
