(From Our Own Correspondent.) MILSON, Jail. 26.

To celebrate the coming of ago of their daughter, Myra, Mr and Mrs N. T. Benton, of Milson’s Lino, tendered a social evening at their residence last evening. The spacious lawns and gardens were specially illuminated for the occasion with electric lamps, whilst the trees and shrubs wore hung with festoons of coloured ribbons and myriads of Chinese lanterns. ’The festivities were conducted on the lawn, the evening being mild, and the weather most favourable. Upwards of sixty guests responded to tho invitation to bo present, whilst several wrote expressing inability to attend, and wishing tho guest of the evening every good fortune. Tho main lawn in front of the residence lent itself admirably for dancing, Mrs Murphy (Milson) and Mrs J. Shaw (Newbury) providing the music at tho piano, being assisted by Mr Rabbits (Palmerston berth) and Miss Anderson (Aokautcro). The guests indulged in dancing, square dances proving very popular, intermingled with a variety of games, both entertaining and amusing. Mr. and Mrs Sheppard (Kelvin Grove) entertained the company with a vocal duct, whilst Messrs Grcatorex and Morine contributed items on the steel guitar and ukulele. Mr Sheppard then aetccl as song leader in a community sing which proved particularly popular. Arbors, summer houses, and lawns, tho former dimly lighted with . vvaying Chinese lanterns, wore used to accommodate the guests, whilst a very dainty supper was served. Mr It. A. Mercer, speaking on behalf of tho guests, expressed pleasure at being present. Ho complimented those responsible for the very effective and efficient manner in which tho gardens were decorated, and after complimenting tho guest of the evening on having attained her majority, called for a toast which was enthusiastically honoured. Miss Myra Benton then amo forward and cut the beautifully ornamented birthday cako. Miss Anderson presented to Miss Benton a lovely bouquet of dahlias _ and fern, tho blooms being a prize species which were greatly admired. Miss Benton suitably responded, thanking all. for their good wishes as expressed in Mr Mercer’s speech and tho bouquet. After supper was over, dancing and games were continued, the distribution of paper hats and _ coloured streamers among tho couples making a gay scone which was reluctantly brought to a close in the early hours by all assembled joining hands and singing “Auld Lang Syne” Miss Benton was the recipient of many nice presents which were arranged in tho drawing-room. Those present included Mcsdames Shaw (Newbury), Mercer and Sheppard (Kolvin Grove), Murphy and Sinclair (Milson), Anderson (Aokautcre), Waller (Awapuni), Misses Scorror (Auckland), Rowlands (Karcrc), Abbis Morccr, Baillcy, Gibbs (2), J. Benton, M. Benton McLean, Anderson (3), .Jones, Ward, Townsend, Robins, Callahan, Thompson, Terry, and Joan Waller; Messrs McKenzie (2), Mercer (3), Waller, Shcppcrd, Murphy, Sinclair, Benton, Terry, Lewis, Sheppard (2), Evans, Groatorex, Gibbs, Morine, Morgan, Puklowski, Penman, Rabbits, do Clccno. Carruthcrs, Thorburn, Anderson, and James.
