A pleasant clay was spent on Wed- 1 1 nesdav when 30 members of the Long- ': | burn branch of the Freezing Workers’ I Union, together with their wives, ! | journeyed to Feilding to play a game : !of cricket against the Feilding branch lat Kowliai Park. The ladies played ! I rounders and bad a scicinl day generally, while the Feilding ladies supplied ■ morning tea, lunch and afternoon tea. < Everyone had high praise for the wonderful ground the Feilding Borough Council provided free. The game was j rather exciting. Feilding batted first : for 158, while Longburn met disaster early and bad to follow on, only ma.k- , ing 69 runs in the first innings. The ; batting of Mabey and Sliearin was a j bright feature. Shearin made 33, in- ; eluding two sixes. Flannigan made 64 : - in twenty minutes and the innings ' ended at" 189. Feilding wickets fell fast, but the fieldsmen being overkeen, many byes were run up. The last batsman was caught when scores were even, only to be dropped. One more run was added when the lust ; batsman was caught, tlms the game ended in Feilding’s favour bv one run. Dinner was partaken of and the evening spent in dancing and community singing at tlie Foresters’ Hall i till midnight. _ Everybody voted the I day a most enjoyable one.
