STORMS IN AUSTRALIA

A further downpour drenched the metropolitan area last night and more rain and thunderstorms are expected to-day. The temperature yesterday reached 94.4 and the humidity was 86 at 'eight o’clock in the evening.
A Melbourne message states that a rain storm burst in the city late yesterday and the streets were flooded to a depth of two feet in the low-lying parts. Lightning dislocated the electric systems in half a dozen suburban areas.
A Brisbane message states that the Ward and Langlo Rivers are rising rapidly. Sheep have been removed from all the river frontages in the low-lying country. Rain commenced last night. SYDNEY, Jan. 26.
Storms continue to cause heavy damage in parts of the country. Sixteen inches of rain fell at Eden, on the south coast, in as many hours during a violent storm. Business premises and homes were flooded. For miles waters rushed feet deep over the roads.
Sveral bridges were swept away on Princess Highway, the main road to Victoria, and traffic was cut off. The post office at llethoreot© was flooded, and the postmaster and his family were forced to race for safety. There was an extraordinary storm at Dorrigo. It was accompanied by torrential rain, deafening thunder and nerve racking lightning. Three people were taken to hospital paralysed after being struck by lightning. Chops were washed out of the ground. Hail penetrated the hides of cattle, leaving them bleeding. . Houses and sheds were unroofed.
