SAVED COMRADE’S LIFE.
SCHOOLBOY’S PROMPT ACTION. AUCKLAND, Jan. 25. The young son of Mr R. Cochrane fell off the wharf at Opononi yesterday and was soon in difficulties. A lad named Sidney Andrews, aged 11, saw his comrade disappear and, without waiting to take off his dived into the water and, after a time, located Cochrane. Catching him by the hair, he brought him safely to the surface.
A largo number of tourists immediately subscribed to a testimonial for Andrews, who undoubtedly saved Cochrane’s life. A recommendation is to be made to the Royal Humane Society for further recognition of the rescue.
