WOODVILLE, Jan. 25. Miss Ross, of Dunedin, is the guest of Dr and Mrs Mules. Miss Mary Durrad, Fcathcrston, is staying with Dr and Mrs P. H. Mules. Mrs Bell and Mrs Didl'd 1, of Timaru, arc the guests of Mr and Mrs A. E. Richards.

A meeting of the committee of the Woodville District High School was held on Monday evening, those present being Mr S. Turnbull (chairman), Messrs R. R. Johnston, G. •Peebles, H. Pilcher, L. Williams, J. MePeak and the secretary. A letter was received from the Hawke's' Bay Education Board regarding tho calling of tenders for conveying children to school, and granting a sum of money for tar sealing tho school grounds, and replacing broken windows. It was decided to write to the secretary of the Pahiatua 'A. and P. Association stating that the committee could' not postpone their school picnic as all arrangements had been made. Invitations are to be sent to Ballance, Hopelands, Woodlands Road, Ivuincroa, Maliarahara and Papatawa schools to attend the picnic. Mr Turnbull stated that “parents’ day” had been a success, and after all expenses had been paid there was a balance of £ls 12s 7d to go to school funds. The theft of a suitcase, valued at £4, tho property of Loslie Ware, was admitted by tho accused person, who appeared before Messrs H. Galbraith and F. M. Kenney, J.P.'s. at the Woodville Police Court. Constable Skinner stated that Ware was visiting his uncle, Mr C. Ware, at Woodville. On arrival on Monday he left his case at the station while ho walked to a house sonic distance away to borrow a cycle. On his return the case was missing. He searched tho station thoroughly then came to town, where he found the case among luggage at an hotel. Accused pleaded guilty. He stated that his prohibition order had expired a few days previously and ho had had a “day out” at the Ashhurst races. Ho stated that he had taken the bag in mistake for his own while under the influence of liquor. The Justices convicted accused and ordered him to como up for sentence if called upon within six months, and also instructed that a prohibition order be issued against him. Arrangements for the visit of the Gov-ernor-General and tho Lady Blcdisloc to Woodville on Friday morning were finalised at a special meeting of the Borough Council on Monday evening. Their Excellencies will arrive by car at 10.15 a.m. and will proceed direct to Fountaine Square, where the reception will bo held. Inside tho gates, there wil be a guard of honour, furnished by tho Returned Soldiers’ Association, Boy. Scouts and Girl Guides. After the National Anthem has been played by. tho band, which will be accommodated in the rotunda, tho Vice-Regal party will proceed to a dais under the trees bordering the Square, where they will meet a number of local residents. The Mayor (Mr J. Elder) will then deliver an address of welcome.
