RAILWAY OFFICERS’ INSTITUTE.
At a meeting of the local committee of the Railway Officers’ institute, held last evening, it was decided to request the executive in Wellington to make every endeavour to obtain an immediate increase in all salaries of 15 per cent., with a view to offsetting the hardship imposed as a result of the increased exchange rate. Members of the institute, it was stated at the meeting, .are at present experiencing great difficulty in meeting their financial obligations, and it was felt that the further lessening of purchasing power consequent upon this action having been taken would render thenposition a most hopeless one.
