Crooko inquired whether, in order to facilitate the payment of the war debts, America and Britain would invite France, Italy, Belgium and Germany to confer with the view to common action to render the balance of trade between Europe and the United States more favourable to Europe. Mr Stanley Baldwin said the United States had agreed to a joint examination of the whole question with Britain and therefore ho thought the suggested action at present inappropriate. FAVOURABLE COMPARISON. Received December 20, 1.50 p.m. LONDON, Dec. 19. Sir Henry Bettorton, Minister of Labour, in presenting in the House of Commons, . Supplementary Estimates for £18,000,000, mostly needed for payments to the unemployed, said that though the deterioration of world conditions continued,' Britain as the result of her own efforts and sacrifices, had undeniably escaped its worst effects. Britain’s exports in the last 11 months had only declined 6.9 per cent, compared with the United States 35.7, Germany 11.1, France 37.3 and Italy 33.3. Thus, while Britain was holding her own, there was serious and progressive deterioration in every other country except the Dominions.
