WOODVILLE, Dec. 19.

Mrs A. Tennont is visiting her daughter, Mrs E. J. I’. Simpson, at Woodville. Mr and Mrs Munro and family, of Papatuwu, arc visiting Auckland. Mr M. It. Parsons, of Martinborough, is tho guest of Mr and Mrs R. H. Morgan, Woodlands Road. An enjoyable inter-club match was played between Pahiatua and Woodville Bowling Clubs at the Woodville green on Saturday afternoon, beautiful weather prevailing. Woodville won by 24 points, the aggregates being: Woodville 125, Pahiatua 101. At tho breaking-up ceremony at the Woodville District High Schdol on Friday afternoon, the chairman of the school committee (Mr S. Turnbull) presented the cup given by Mr and Mrs J. Sullivan, for tho best all-round sportsman of the school. The trophy was won by Ronald Vowell, of Standard VI., and Bruce Court, of Form V, who tied. Tho annual high school break-up dance', which is always a popular event, was held in the Foresters’ Hall on Friday evening, and tho largo number of students and exstudents present spent a happy time. The evening was spent in games, competitions and dancing, tho music being supplied by Mrs R. R'. Johnston. The Monte Carlo waltz was won by Miss J. Russell and Mr C. Vowell, a flower competition by Miss J. Grinlinton, a novel telegram contest by Mr Skinner, junr., and a parcel gnmo by Miss G. Johnston. Parlour football proved popular, while a choir contest, which was judged bv Messrs R. R. Johnston and H. G. llorrington created a good deal of amusement. Tho winning choir vv as conducted by Miss J. Grinlinton. The Woodville Municipal Band gavo another sacrod concert on Sunday evening, the theatre being comfortably filled. The programme, which was supplemented by Woodville and outside talent, was an enjoyable one and all tho items were warmly applauded. The items by the band comprised “The Middy,” “Come Ail Ye Faithful,” “Christians Awake,” “Good-bye,” “Hark The Herald Angels Sing” and “Cottonopolis.” The band has shown marked progress lately and the public were sincere in their appreciation. Other items were ns follow: ’Cello solo. Miss McKenzie (Palmerston North); song, Mr Moore (Dannevirko); euphonium solo (“Wild Rcee ), J. Curry, accompanied by band; musical monologue ’Mr IC. Gillespie (Dannevirke), saxophone solo, Mr C. Bergersen (Palmerston North); pianoforte solo, Miss G. Johnston (Woodville); selection, piano, violin and ’cello, McKenzie trio (Palmerston North); song,’ Mr Moore.
