At Albert Hall in a fifteen round bout McCorkindale beat George Cook, of Australia, The towel was thrown in in the tenth round after the referee’s examination of Cook’s injured eye. Cook and McCorkindale both weighed 192 pounds. McCorkindale had the better of the early rounds and became immediately aggressive. He steadily bombarded the Australian whose heavy swings were easily evaded. . Cook in the fifth round shook McCorkindale, who recovered well and delivered one of his famous riglithand haymakers which would have downed any other heavyweight. Cook kept his feet and continued gamely until the eighth in which one particularly savage right caught McCorkindale fully on the jaw. McCorkindale now proved his superiority. In the ninth round he damaged Cook’s eye which was streaming with blood. When the tenth began, Cook, despite his handicap, fought furiously, necessitating McCorkindale’s utmost exertions to defend himself. It was a terrific encounter which was loudly applauded.
