LARGE SUM OWING.

ON COMMONWEALTH SHIPPING LINE. In the House of Representatives at Canberra, the Prime Minister (Mr Lyons) informed the deputy Leader of the Opposition (Mr Forde) that the full purchase price of the Commonwealth shipping line was £1,900,000. Of that amount £1,320,000 was still outstanding. The agreement provided that portion of the purchase money should be paid in annual instalments, the final instalment being payable in 1938. The Government was keeping in close touch with the matter, with a view to taking appropriate action in the interests of the Commonwealth.
