WOODVILLE, Oct. 12. Mr W. Elder, of Hawera, is paying a, slant visit to his parents, Mr and Mrs J. Elder, Grant Road. A pleasant afternon was spent at the Balance Women’s Institute last Wednesday, Mrs Windle presiding over a fair attendance. Mrs Rule and Mrs Windle were appointed delegates to attend tne half-yearly council meeting 1 . Very interesting were the demonstrations in smocking and tatting by Miss Mitchell, of Nikau. Mrs F. Ebbett sang Here,” and was warmly applauded. Mrs Day and Mrs F. Ebbett were the judges in the competition for largest hen s egg. Miss Jones was awarded first and Airs r. Homo second place. Community singing was enjoyed, Miss D. Day being P la £'* fc for the afternoon. Miss Lindup, of Wellington, was a visitor. Afternoon tea wag served by the hostesses, Mrs McKenzie, Mrs Windle, Airs Cooper and Mrs Horne. The meeting concluded with the singing or the National Anthem.
