(From Our Own Correspondent.) OTAKI, Oct. 12. The takings at football matches in Otaki this season totalled over £sl, of which the Otaki Borough Council gets £5 4s. The Borough Council has decided that there :s no need for tho free ambulance service, maintaining that the district is well catered for by the Palmerston North Hospital ambulance. A move is on foot to connect two of the mam roads to the beach so as to open up a fine scenic walk. / Dissatisfaction has been expressed concerning the affairs of tho borough library and in consequence a deputation waited on tho council last night asking for an improvement. This was promised. The rainfall for the year to date is only 204 inches. For tho same period last year it was 304 in. J Mr R._ Merwood, the well-known racing cyclist, is at present a patient at Palmerston North Hospital. Mrs Matttson now a resident of Palmerston North, was entertained by the Methodist Ladies’ Guild and presented with a carved tray and teapot stand.
