ASHHURST.
ASHHURST, Oct. 13. (From Our Own Correspondent.) A meeting of the Ashhurst Women’s Institute was held in the Town Hall on Wednesday afternoon. Tho president, Mrs Fenwick, welcomed the following now members: Mrs McDonnell, Mrs Hall, Miss Pick and Miss Thorne. Tho treasurer read a statement of accounts, showing that tho institute had made a good start financially. The growing of potatoes was discussed and it was decided to plant as soon as the potatoes could be obtained and distributed to those willing to take them. A report of the council meeting at Woodvillo was given by tho delegate, Mrs Fenwick, and was followed by a roll call, “My Favourite Flower.’’ It -was decided to establish a trading stall and tho ladies in charge for the next meeting aro Mesdames Bleakley, Bristow and Sumner. Tho president apologised for the unavoidable absence of the speaker for the afternoon, Miss Grant. A musical game was won by Mrs Cook, and the winners of points for an article made from waste material were Mrs Hyndman, Miss A. Trass, Mrs Currio and Mrs Jepsen. Much interest was also aroused by the “treasures” brought by some of the members and displayed on the stage. Miss Read and Miss Fenwick rendered a pianoforte duet, after which the hostesses, Mesdames Bristow and Brockie and Miss Fairless, served afternoon tea. Beforo the conclusion of the meeting votes of thanks were accorded to Mr Hyndman, who had constructed a cupboard for storing the institute crockery; and Mrs Hall and Miss Dobson who had helped to increase the funds during the meeting. The meeting concluded with the National Anthem.
