OROUA COUNTY.

ENGINEER’S REPORT. The following report was presented by the engineer, Mr R. L. Harding, to tiiis afternoon’s meeting of the Oroua County Council at Feilding:— “Eastern Riding.—The gravelling of the various roads in the vicinity of Ashhurst has now been completed and little additional gravel should be required in this district until next year. Crushing operations were commenced on June 4, and since that date the following roads have been treated : Bunnythorpe-Ashhurst 526 yards, Feilding-Ashhurst 623, Pohangina Road (spread) 594, Pohangina Road (dumped) 1041, Kelvin Grove 401, township of Ashhurst 394, Watershed Road 357, Ulysses Road 162, Spur Road 153, Harrisoh’s Road 120, Palmorston-Ashhurst Road 254, Raukawa Road 104, Siberia Road 175, old Napier Road 37, Hackett’s Road 39, sundry 126; total 5116 yards. The total of 5116 yards was for 55 working days, giving an average per day of 91 yards Considering that there were only four men in the pit and two teams oarting to the crusher this output must be considered very satisfactory. The relief workers under the No. 5 scheme are now at work putting down concrete paths in the Ashhurst cemetery. At Colyton good work is being done by improving sharp bends on Spur Road. “Western Riding.—The portable crushing plant has been installed at Kakariki and is now ready to commence operations. Four hundred and seventy six yards ot screened pit gravel has been spread on the Halcombe-Kakariki Road and 72 yards of fine pit gravel has been used in topdressing the new portion of Reu Reu Road. The old culverts on Forlong’s Road have beon replaced with concrete pipes. At Halcombe No. 5 scheme work has beon confined to clearing gorse both on private property and on the road sides. On Makino Road the banking of the side has been continued and tho men are now at work removing several large stumps from the metalled formation.” TREASURER’S REPORT.
