PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION.

SUPPORT FOR MR HOOVER. NEW YORK, Oct. 11. Opening the final intensive drive for President Hoover’s re-election, an ex-President, Mr Calvin Coolidge, made his first and probably his only campaign speech at Madison Square Garden to-night. He stressed the sound conservative policies of the President’s administration, its protection of the value of the dollar and the gold standard against the Democrats’ inflation measures. Mr Coolidge scored off Mr F. D. Rooseveldt’s failure to take a definite position against the payment of 2300 million dollars for the soldiers’ bonus. He defended Mr Hoover’s financial relief of corporations, hanks and insurance companies, as all designed to relieve the economic distress of the common people.

FOUR POINT PROGRAMME. OUTLINED BY SENATOR BORAH. BURLEY (Idaho), Oct. 12. Senator Borah, who is taking a nonpartisan stand in the Presidential election, outlined a four point programme for economic recovery, namely: Adjustment of world war problems. Expansion of currency. Elimination of extravagance in government. Adjustment of private debts to conform to the change in money values. Although it was not specifically stated, some have interpreted the expansion point as a direct hit at President Hoover’s - emphasis on the “hard money” issue.
