PAHIATUA, Oct. 11. Miss M. Maddever, of Wellington, and formerly of Mangamutu, who has been visiting the district, was the guest of Mrs J. D. 0. Crewe, Mrs J. P. Boyle ha*> been spending a few days in Wellington. Advice was received to-day of tho death at Pirinoa (Martinborough), of Mr K. .0. Munro, at ono time in business in Pahiatua as a storekeeper. Tho late .Mr Munro was a very old member of the Foresters’ Lodge.

The monthly meeting of the Borough Council, held last evening, was attended by tho Mayor (Mr Wilson), Crs Boagey, Murch, Murphy, Hodd, Britland and Siddells. An apology for absence was received from Cr Donald. Tho overseer, Mr T. Clarke, tendered his resignation \ the position of building inspector. The icsignation was accepted and the town olerk was appointed to fill the vacancy. Three small building permits were issued to the value of nearly £SO. The Mayor referred to the town end approach to the new traffic bridge. Ho had been informed by the consulting ongineer that it was impossible to obtain any contribution from the Main Highways Board to purchase from the borough extra fund to provide for a straight approach to the new structure out of Manganao Road. But it would certainly look better, added the Mayor, if the approach was straight, even if tho Borough Council had to givo the land for the purpose. Thirty-five perches was required. The council finally decided to make a grant of the required land to the Highways Board for tho purpose of providing a straight road approach from Mangahao Road on to tho new, bridge.
