BOXING

BLAY DEFEATS TROWERN. Per Press Association. WELLINGTON, Oct. 11. Bobhv Blav (Australia) defeated Reg Trowern in a hard-fought boxing contest, Trowern surrendering at the end of the ninth round. Blay fought vigorously, rousing the large audience to enthusiasm as the contestants freely mixed it. In the early rounds Blay displayed an impenetrable defence and cleverly broke his opponent’s guard. His most effective blows were a right cross followed by a left hook. Trowern was down three times in the second round and again in the fourth, eighth and ninth rounds, and each time the New Zealander was glad to take the count to nine. It was no surprise when Trowern signified at the end of the ninth that he had had enough and the contest was awarded to Blay.
