REMARKABLE JOURNEY.
1000 MILES IN ROW-BOAT. ITALIAN STUDENTS’ FEAT. An amazing journey from Pavia (Italy) to London, in a frail racing boat, by four Italian University students and a coxswain, was practically completed when they arrived at Westminster on August 24. The oarsmen left Pavia on the River Ticino, Italy, on July 31, says the London Times, and, except for a short train journey from Lausanne to Basle, they rowed all the way by river and canal, even crossing the English Channel in ■ their shell. The Italian Ambassador was at Westminister to meet the boat, which is named “Live Dangerously.” The crew were deeply bronzed and were attired in singlets and shorts. They are on a holiday trip, carrying a message of greeting from the rector of Pavia Univorstiy to the rector of Oxford. . Their route was up the River Ticino to Lake Maggiore, thence by the Rhone to Lausanne. From there their craft was shipped overland to Basle, where, once more afloat, they crossed the Rhine to Antwerp and along the Flemish canals to Ostend and Calais. From there they crossed the Channel to Dover. ) . The rowers had fine weather throughout, but struck ■ a choppy patch near Dover, whence they went to London by way of Ramsgate, Slieerness and Gravesend. The distance travelled was about 1000 miles.
